Two fatal incidents have moved the football families in Greece and Poland. Former Greek youth international Panagiotis Bachramis died while swimming, Polish talent Emile Swiderski collapsed on the pitch.

On Saturday, Wissa Szczucin striker Emil Swidersky felt dizzy in the 40th minute of the match against Mragovia Mragowo, a game in the 3rd Division, the 4th level. He asked to be substituted and fainted. Teammates had to carry him off the pitch. He was taken to the hospital, where he passed away on Sunday morning, August 15th.

Irenusz Piwko, the playing coach of Wissa, reacted on the sad incident in a local newspaper. ‘Before the game I asked him, if he was okay. He looked pretty normal, there was no indication that something was wrong. During the game he didn’t play his best, I was planning to substitute him at half-time.’

‘I don’t know what happened next. It looked like an epileptic seizure, Emil was having convulsions, I’ve never seen anything like that. I am convinced, that the incredible heat had a lot to do with what happened. Emil was strong, he never complained about his health.’

According to media reports, the game was played in temperatures of approximately 40 degrees Celsius in the shade. On the pitch it must have been much hotter. There are no results of an autopsy published yet.

Swiderski was one of the best players of Wissa. Last season the 23-year old striker guided his club to promotion by scoring 15 times

Panagiotis Bachramis died last Friday, August 13th, also under tragic circumstances.

The 34-year old Greek footballer was wounded fatally while snorkelling. He was hit by a speedboat, which skipper had not noticed the buoy that marked Bachramis’ diving spot.

Bachramis was a midfielder. The former youth international joined the ranks of professional football in 1995 and played 268 games in the Greek divisions and made 29 goals.

Bachramis was looking for a new club. The last two seasons he played for Veria FC, before he had worn the colours of Apollon, Kalamata, Iraklis and Larissa. With Larissa he conquered the Greek Cup in 2007.
