Host Chile 2 wins second Torneo FIFPro América
Monday 23 January

Chile 2 is the winner of the second Torneo FIFPro América, which was held last Friday and Saturday in Santiago, Chile. The team of SIFUP, the players union in Chile, defeated last year’s champion Brazil in the final.
SIFUP 2 beat Fenapaf by 3 goals to 1. The Chilean team started strongly, with midfielder Luis Núñez leading the way. Eduardo Navea scored the first goal in the nineteenth minute, and a quarter of an hour later he increased Chile’s lead with his second goal of the match. After the interval, Víctor González made it 3-0. In the final stages, Cassiano saved Brazil’s pride from the penalty spot - Brazil was last year’s winner. Luis Núñez was later celebrated as Best Player of the Tournament.
Chile 2 had reached the final thanks to a stroke of luck. SIFUP finished the first day as winner of Group 2, but that was decided by drawing lots, since all three teams in this group had won one match with 2-1 and had lost one match with the same score.
Chile 2 beat Uruguay (0-1 García, 1-1 Luis Núñez, 2-1 Francisco González), Peru beat Chile (Juan Montenegro 1-0, Jhoao Ward 2-0 and Francisco González 2-1) and Uruguay beat Peru (Gabriel Masner 1-0, Pier Bogni 2-0 and Enrique Ismodes 2-1) . In the draw, Chile was the lucky winner, ahead of Peru and Uruguay.
Brazil reached the finals without any help. In the opening match, Fenapaf beat Argentina 1-0. Cassiano scored the only goal from a free kick. Brazil ended the second group match with a goalless draw against Chile 1. In the final group match, Argentina proved too strong for Chile 1, beating them 3-2 with goals by Gonzalo Bonafina (penalty kick, 1-0), Mariano Sánchez (2-0), Germán Skiba (3-0), Iván Herrera (3-1) and Marcelo Rolón (3-2).
In the two other finals on Saturday, Peru won third place by beating Argentina 1-0. Enrique Ismodes scored the only goal in de 38th minute. Uruguay took fifth place by overcoming Chile 1: 2-0 thanks to goals by Gabriel Masner and Pier Bogni.
