Lewandowski and Slask players in Polish spotlights

Robert Lewandowski is the Best Professional Footballer of Poland. The forward was chosen in a vote organized by the Polish footballers’ association PZP, which also handed out many other awards. Slask Wroclaw was granted the most players in the best eleven of the Polish first division, the Ekstraklasa.

 

For the fifth consecutive year, the PZP celebrated the best players in and from Poland by carrying out a ballot among all professional footballers in the Polish league (first and second division).

 

Lewandowski convinced his countrymen with his play at Borussia Dortmund, the reigning champions of Germany. Last season he scored 8 goals helping Dortmund claim the title. So far this season, he has found the net 14 times and dished out 7 assists.

 

The 23-year old Lewandowski has made 40 appearances for the national team of Poland in total, and scored 13 times. He will be its biggest star when Euro 2012 kicks-off in Poland with a match against Greece.

 

In other individual categories, the following awards were handed out:
The Best Ekstraklasa Player: Artjom Rudniew (Lech Poznan)
The Best Young Ekstraklasa Player: Ariel Borysiuk (Legia Warszawa)
The Biggest Ekstraklasa Discovery: Maor Melikson (Wisla Kraków)

 

The Best I liga Player: Edi Andradina (Pogon Szczecin)
The Best Young I liga Player: Adrian Blad (Zawisza Bydgoszcz)
The Biggest I liga Discovery: Adrian Blad (Zawisza Bydgoszcz)

 

Artjom Rudniew, the best player from the Ekstraklasa, was also one of the eleven players who earned a spot in the Best Team of Ekstraklasa. The following players made this elite team:

 

Goalkeeper: Marian Kelemen (Slask Wroclaw);
Defenders: Jakub Wawrzyniak (Legia Warszawa), Tomasz Jodlowiec (Polonia Warszawa), Piotr Celeban (Slask Wroclaw), Grzegorz Wojtkowiak (Lech Poznan);
Midfielders: Sebastian Mila (Slask Wroclaw), Maor Melikson (Wisla Kraków), Miroslav Radovic (Legia Warszawa);
Forwards: Artjom Rudniew (Lech Poznan), Tomasz Frankowski (Jagiellonia Bialystok) and Daniel Ljuboja (Legia Warszawa).
