FIFPro's main task is protecting the rights of all professional footballers worldwide, but – in the name of all those players – FIFPro also supports invaluable charities, such as the Homeless World Cup.

The Homeless World Cup is a charity that supports grass-roots football programs and social enterprise development via a network of 70 national partners. It celebrates its work by organising an annual football tournament that unites teams of homeless people from countries all around the globe. On Sunday, October 19th, the 2014 Homeless World Cup will kick off in Santiago de Chile. The 12th edition of this event will welcome 64 nations and more than 500 players, with over 100,000 spectators expected to visit the 8-day tournament, who are ready to show the world how a ball has helped change their lives.

Carlos Soto, President of the Chilean association of professional footballers Sifup and FIFPro Division America board member, will attend the Homeless World Cup.

"Football is a wonderful game. We all love it, whether we are called Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Arturo Vidal or Carlos Soto; we all like to play this game, our game."

"For some people football can be more than a game. The players of the Homeless World Cup can improve their lives by participating in this event. FIFPro – the representative of all professional footballers in the world – encourages that initiative."

"Next year, FIFPro will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. To celebrate that milestone, FIFPro has decided to financially support the 2015 Homeless World Cup that will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, close to FIFPro's headquarters. With that in mind, me and my Sifup colleagues will act as representatives of FIFPro and all professional footballers worldwide, by showing our commitment to the 2014 Homeless World Cup and all of its participants while we attend this great event in our beautiful Santiago."
