Not long to go and the football university in Bolivia will open its doors. Starting on Tuesday 30 March in Santa Cruz the first students commence their education for a career in football.
La Universidad del Fútbol is an initiative of Javier Peralta from the Global Education Network (Red Global Educativa). While founding the university he received support from among others the national football federation FBF, the players' union Fabol, the Nur University (in Santa Cruz) and the vice-minister for Sport. From abroad help was provided from the national football institute of Chile and the School for Communication, Radio and Sport Journalism in Argentina.
The programme is not intended to teach how to play football. The university has been established for everyone who aspires to a career in football or wants to know more about this sport. In the future this education must produce managers, coaches, referees and journalists.
For the time being the students can choose from two studies: Technical Management in Football and Sport Journalism. In the future several more studies will be added, for instance a study on sport law, a course to become a football referee and a course as trainer.
