The Indian professional footballers association condoled the death of Rakshak Naik. The 28-year old footballer of Margao Sports Club died in a road accident.

It was a tragic end to a promising football career. Rakshak Naik finished his morning practice session and was happily returning home on his motorcycle along with his colleague Stanley Coutinho. Unfortunately, they were involved in a head-on collision with a truck. Rakshak Naik was killed instantly, Stanley Coutinho suffered a leg fracture.

Young Rakshak got his baptism in football when Goa Police picked him for their First Division team and after short stints with ONGC, Raia and Sesa Goa. The big break came when he joined Sporting Clube de Goa. Subsequently, he switched over to another Goa Professional Club – Margao Sports Club - and excelled as striker for the team.

The Football Players Association of India (FPAI) expresses grief at this tragic loss.

FIFPro, the voice of all professional football players worldwide, wants to express its sympathy with the families, friends, relatives and teammates of Alex Alves and Rakshak Naik.
