FIFPro, the worldwide professional footballers' association, together with FIFA proudly announced the 2014 FIFA FIFPro World XI, a team chosen by tens of thousands of professional footballers on this planet.

The World XI is the prestigious result of a players vote organised by FIFPro, the official representative of all professional footballers. FIFPro invited all players to compose a line-up with the game's most outstanding performers of 2014 consisting of one goalkeeper, four defenders (regardless of position), three midfielders and three forwards.

FIFPro received 23,383 votes from players in 58 countries. Those professional footballers chose the following World XI:

All players received their World XI trophy during the Ballon d'Or in Zurich besides David Luiz and Thiago Silva as their club, Paris Saint-Germain, is preparing for Tuesday's French League Cup meeting at Saint-Etienne.

World XI facts:

  • Four players make their debut in the World XI: David Luiz, Toni Kroos, Ángel Di Maria and Arjen Robben.
  • Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were picked for a record eight year.
  • Andrés Iniesta is third on the list with 6 appearances, a feat that was already achieved by Xavi Hernández.
  • Sergio Ramos equaled Iker Casillas and John Terry with five appearances.
  • Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm and Thiago Silva were selected for the second consecutive year.
  • David Luiz is the tenth Brazilian player to make it to the World XI. Brazil is now the lone record holder. Spain is second with nine winners. The ten Brazilian winners are: Dani Alves (4), Cafú, david Luiz, Dida, Kakà (3), Lúcio, Maicon, Marcelo, Ronaldinho (3) and Thiago Silva (2).
  • Dani Alves, Xavi Hernández, Franck Ribéry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have not been re-elected after making the 2013 World XI.
