Costa Rican football players have chosen their FIFA FIFPro World XI – and for many Keylor Navas was their pick as goalkeeper.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper has had some impressive performances for the 10-time European champion this season after replacing Iker Casillas, who has joined FC Porto.

“It’s really important for us to take part in the World XI and even more so because we have a representative at Real Madrid who we have to support so that he wins,’’ Deiver Vega, a player for Deportivo Saprissa said. Three of Vega's teammates are pictured on the left.

National union Asojupro has collected about 350 votes from 14 leadings clubs in Costa Rica, including players at first-division team Limon (see video below).

“We’ve made a big effort to collect votes,” Asojupro president Alejandro Sequeira said. “It’s important for the players to take part.”

The World XI, which is based on votes from professionals in 58 countries, will be announced at the same time as the Ballon d’Or winner on January 11.
