Free-scoring striker Pieros Soteriou has picked up Cypriot football's Most Valuable Player award after a stellar season in which he scored over 20 goals in all competitions.

The 24-year-old's lethal finishing has put APOEL Nicosia on the brink of a fifth consecutive domestic league title, which could be confirmed tomorrow.

Soteriou, who has agreed to join Danish powerhouse FC Copenhagen next season, collected his prize at last night's award ceremony hosted by the Cypriot players' association (PASP).

Brazilian Alex Da Silva, from Apollon Limassol, won the respect of his peers as foreign player of the season. He edged out the likes of English striker Matt Derbyshire, who is enjoying a new lease on life in his first campaign with Omonoia Nicosia.
