Theo van Seggelen will step down as Director of FIFPRO’s holding company after this month, following a successful career of more than three decades with the international player union.

Van Seggelen has overseen FIFPRO Holding B.V. for the past four years following a 28-year stint as General Secretary.

"It has been a pleasure to work for FIFPRO Holding the last few years and act as a guardian of this great organisation," Van Seggelen said. "I am very proud of my contribution to player unions around the world and will look back fondly on my career.

"I have loved working with footballers and union people and will remain in contact with so many of them whom I consider dear friends."

During his time as General Secretary, FIFPRO grew exponentially, increasing its membership to 65 national player unions from 11, and expanding from a Europe-centric organisation to a global supporter of player rights.

Among players he supported over the years was Jean-Marc Bosman, whose legal challenge at the European Court of Justice in 1995 won out-of-contract players freedom of movement. This freedom was adopted worldwide into FIFA regulations in 2001.
