FIFPRO President Sergio Marchi congratulates Pope Leo XIV on his election

FIFPRO President Sergio Marchi sent his warmest congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost following his election as Pope Leo XIV on 8 May 2025.

Pope Leo XIV will lead members of the Catholic Church's global community of 1.4bn people and is the first US-born pontiff. He also holds Peruvian nationality.

“From our organisation, which represents professional footballers around the world, we would like to express our commitment to the values of human dignity, peace, justice and dialogue in the world,” said Marchi.
