Everybody Deserves a Safe Workplace

Footballers' needs are overlooked by an industry that grows more and more demanding. Like any other worker, footballers should be allowed to thrive in an environment free of violence, sexual assault and discrimination.

How FIFPRO and Unions Create a Safer Workplace for Players

FIFPRO and player unions are dedicated to identifying and eradicating all examples of match-fixing from the game. FIFPRO's Red Button app allows players to report match-fixing approaches safely and anonymously to national authorities such as police and government anti-corruption units.

Abuse and violence have alarming repercussions: 88 percent of unions said the threat of violence leads to poor performance by players, and 83 percent said that it contributes to mental health issues.

Discrimination based on race, gender or sexual orientation, and abuses of power, happen in the professional game. Players should know of the existing structures through unions that are there to support them.

Players Social Media

With worrying levels of online hate being directed at athletes, which can have a damaging effect on players’ mental health and wellbeing, FIFPRO and player unions have collaborated with multiple stakeholders to combat this global issue.

While the globalisation of the football industry has opened up tremendous opportunities for players and clubs, it has also triggered growing concerns about the vulnerability of children and youth players, who face specific risks and challenges in the context of being the victims of trafficking.

FIFPRO advocates for a system of protection to be in place for all players, including safe and effective ways to report sexual abuse and assistance in resulting legal processes.
