The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has welcomed a "landmark success" for the country’s professional footballers with the signing of a standard player contract.

The agreement with the Ghana Football Association will take effect from the 2025/26 season and follows extensive deliberations and collaborative work between the two organisations on behalf of all professional footballers in Ghana.

The standard player contract will be fully implemented in the Ghana Premier League, the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and the Access Bank Division One League.

"This represents a landmark success," said PFAG President Samuel Kuffuor, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career at the likes of Bayern Munich and Roma. "As the body for all professional footballers in the country, PFAG reiterates its commitment to ensuring a fair and consistent framework to safeguard the welfare of our members at all times."

The primary objective of Ghana’s standard player contract is to provide guarantees on contractual obligations, creating a level playing field between clubs and minimising legal disputes. It outlines the terms and conditions of the player’s employment, including duration, compensation and other relevant regulations.
